TestWiz and NWEA's Item Bank

You can use TestWiz to create tests using items from a nationally known item bank offered by Northwest Evaluation Association (NWEA). NWEA's Formative Assessment Item Bank (previously known as the ETS Item Bank) is perfect for educators who need high quality, valid, and reliable items for benchmark and formative assessments.

Create State or Common Core Standards-Aligned Tests Easily

NWEA's Formative Assessment Item Bank has over 64,000 items aligned to both State and Common Core Standards. Items are available in Math and ELA for grades K-12, and in Science for grades 3-12. The majority of items are multiple choice, but the item bank also contains some short and extended constructed-response items.

Because an assessment is only as good as each item within it, these items are created through a rigorous item development process. If items do not really measure the standard at the appropriate cognitive level, the assessment results will not be useful.

NWEA's Item Bank is fully integrated into TestWiz. A simple interface guides users along the process of using the items. Items are organized by subject, strand, learning standard, and grade level. There is filtering by difficulty level and Bloom’s Taxonomy. Items and passages are viewable with one click. A Quick Test Builder option is available to randomly select items that meet the user’s parameters.

Once published, assessments can be administered via paper & pencil, online, or a combination of both. For paper & pencil, teacher and student booklets can be printed, as well as custom student answer documents. Once students take the test, the answer documents can be scanned with an inexpensive plain paper scanner. With tests that are administered online, student test tickets can be printed that provide a unique passcode for each student. Students then go to the testing site and enter their names and special codes, and begin testing. Once a student clicks "Finish," the test is automatically scored, and results are immediately available in TestWiz.

A comprehensive item analysis report is available in addition to a large variety of charts, graphs, and lists to provide everything a teacher needs to help target classroom instruction. And, TestWiz’s state-of-the-art technology enables users to filter by sub-groups, customize reports, and view multiple assessments, all on the same report. Users can export any of the reports in PDF, Word, or Excel format.

TestWiz is designed with teachers and curriculum folks in mind. Access is online. Support is through step-by-step Help guides, email, and telephone. And, the navigation throughout TestWiz works the same, no matter if it’s a state, local, or literacy assessment – without IT involvement.
