Secretary Duncan announced the Phase 2 Race to the Top winners today at the National Press Club. “In phase 2, we have 19 states over 400 and the average score rose by 25 points. All 19 will be invited back as finalists. They include all of the finalists from Phase 1 that did not win.
Their preliminary scores will be kept confidential until the process is complete, but here's the list of finalists in alphabetical order:
Arizona, California, Colorado, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and South Carolina.As you know, we have $3.4 billion to distribute under Race to the Top-- which should be enough to fund up to about 12 states.”
